Classes of Water Damage

· Class 1 – this is the lowest level of damage where only part of a room may have absorbed moisture.

· Class 2 – this level has affected an entire room where the flooring and walls have absorbed moisture.

· Class 3 – damages are elevated, absorbed water into the walls and ceiling and most of the room is saturated with water.

· Class 4 – this level of damage requires specialty drying and remediation procedures due to damages to specialty materials like hardwood, stonework and concrete.

Categories of Water Damage

· Category 1 – involves damage from a clean source of water such as toilet tanks or broken pipes that supply clean water.

· Category 2 – “grey water” damage comes from water sources with other components like urine, clothes or dishwasher detergents.

· Category 3 – this water is completely unsanitary and can cause illness, disease or death. This water comes from sewage, river flooding or standing bacteria infected waters.

Step 4: Cleaning – All your belongings need to be cleaned and sanitized to prevent mold and bacteria. This step includes carpet cleaning and hardwood floor scrubbing to remove any remaining moisture and particulates.

Step 5: Restoration – This is the biggest step of the restoration process. This involves removing and repairing entire sections of walls and flooring. It can be as simple as repairing some drywall to replacing entire sections of a home.
